For years we have been getting donations from our wonderful customers to send out toys and treats to shelters and rescues across the country.

We just wanted to keep you informed where your donations are going so we will start posting the recipients here on our blog. Please consider donating by simply adding a treat or toy donation item in your shopping cart before to check out and THANK YOU for your support.

Here are the CatToys.com Recipients for November/December:

We helped Boris Kitty raise funds to help two local cats that were shot with a pellet gun by an unknown assailant.  Boris was able to raise $1200. The funds were given to the owner of Peanut to help reduce the financial burden of the vet bills from the incident. While Kritter Kondos, treats and toys were given to Kiki and Peanut to keep the happy and safe.

Thanks to our great customers we were able to donate $125 in cash to Boris Kitty’s drive.

Halloween can be a scary time, especially if your a cat. Here are a few helpful tips to keep your kitty safe this Halloween.

Keep your cats indoors this weekend. This can be a dangerous time of year outside for cats and dogs, but especially black cats as they are often the targets of pranksters or worse.

Watch those opening doors. Cats are sneaky by nature and will slip out an open door as soon as they spot an opportunity. Close them off in an unused room during parties or while trick-or-treaters are at the house. (Kritter Kondos work inside too.) Maybe leave the TV or radio on for them so they are not spooked by all the strange noises in their once docile domicile.

Make sure they are wearing their collars with proper ID on them and not some humiliating and restricting costume. For the most part cats don’t like to wear costumes so don’t force the issue and stress them out. No collar? Then make sure they are microchipped so they can be brought home safely if lost.

Candy can be dangerous so keep it out of your pet’s reach. Not only can chocolate be toxic to animals but the wrappers can cause serious injury if ingested.

Decorate with your pets in mind. Kitty-proof your house this Halloween. Don’t use an open flame they are too easy for a cat to knock over and start a fire. There are plenty of LED alternatives out there to keep your cat and your house safe. Fake spider webs and other decorations with dangling strings are often too much of a temptation for cats who can become entangled and injured.

Have a Happy & Safe Halloween!

See what a little Zoom Around the Room Catnip from Fat Cat did for this kitty? Tally Ho got so so crazy about this catnip he ripped the packaging up to get to it. Photo and package were sent into us by Tally Ho’s owner Barbara.

To help reduce the estimated 500,000 pets affected by home fires each year, The American Kennel Club and ADT Security Services today launched the “National Pet Fire Safety Day.” This nationwide awareness day educates pet owners about potential risks when pets are left home alone and provides them with proven prevention measures to ensure their safety.

According to a recent AKC study, 88 percent of pet owners consider their pets to be valued family members so it makes sense to include them in fire prevention plans and rescue alerts should a house fire strike.

Nearly 1,000 house fires each year are accidentally started by the homeowners’ pets. Learn how to prevent a fire that might be started by your pet and protect your pets with a Pet Alert Decal today!

How to Use Your CatToys.com Box

Remember it is not just the box that your order came in, it is also a very special treat for your cat! Boxes are fun as you can see by our friends Boris and his sisters!

  1. Open the box upon arrival.
  2. Remove all items in the box except the tissue paper.
  3. Place the box on the ground so your cat can get in it.
  4. Optional step: adjust the flaps on the box for easy access.
  5. Sit back and watch the fun.**

** Be sure you have a camera handy to capture all the fun.

We would love to see any photos or videos you take of your kitties playing in our boxes and with the toys they receive.

Above all else have fun with your cats!

Our pal Boris Kitty shows what a gentleman he is by sharing his CatToys.com box with his three sister kitties in this entertaining video.

I you would like to see more photos head on over to his blog, Boris Kitty – 4 Paws for a Cause, and see what fun a box delivered with a pinch of catnip in it is for this feline foursome.

Any one who has a cat and has brought a box into the house knows the simple truth…cats love boxes!

Even if they don’t quite fit in them, they’ll still get in them. But the best box of all is one that is delivered directly to the house and contains catnip!

As you can see by the photos below, this kitty is one very satisfied customer!

A “Sticky” Situation — On September 22, 2009, a Pennsylvania SPCA Law Enforcement officer responded to a distressing call from a North Philadelphia woman who had discovered a cat wrapped in duct tape from head-to-toe and dumped in her backyard.

A Happy Ending For Sticky – On September 29, one week to the day that Sticky was rescued by the Pennsylvania SPCA, she went to her new home with a loving family.

Thanks to tips received from concerned citizens, the same Humane Law Enforcement officer who rescued Sticky was able to make an arrest in the case.
